The Perfect Crib Setup with Jollein: Everything for a Good Night’s Sleep for Your Baby

The Perfect Crib Setup with Jollein: Everything for a Good Night’s Sleep for Your Baby

How to Style and Set Up Your Baby's Crib Setting up your baby's crib is one of the most exciting tasks when preparing the nursery. With the right essentials, you can create a safe and cozy sleep space for your little one. From soft sleeping bags to practical muslin cloths—Jollein has everything you need. Read on to find out how to make your baby’s bed both beautiful and safe! How to Make the Crib Safe and Comfortable A good night’s sleep starts with a well-made crib. Follow these simple steps to ensure your baby sleeps safely and soundly: 1. Use a Properly Fitting Mattress Make sure the mattress is firm and fits snugly inside the crib, with no gaps around the edges. This helps prevent your baby from getting stuck. 2. Add a Fitted Sheet Choose a breathable and soft fitted sheet that wraps tightly around the mattress. Jollein offers a wide range of fitted sheets that perfectly match your nursery style—and your baby’s sleeping bags too! 3. Choose a Sleeping Bag To reduce the risk of suffocation, it's safer to let your baby sleep in a sleeping bag instead of using loose blankets. Pick the right TOG rating depending on the season: Summer sleeping bag (TOG 0.5) for warm nights 4-season sleeping bag (TOG 1.0 – 3.5) for year-round use Sleeping bag with detachable sleeves (TOG 2.5 – 3.5) for the colder months 4. Optional: Add a Light Blanket and Sheet If you prefer to use a blanket and sheet, make sure they’re tucked in tightly under the mattress. Jollein’s soft blankets with a TOG value of 2 are perfect for cooler nights, offering just the right amount of warmth. 5. Avoid Overheating Always keep an eye on the temperature in the nursery. Use breathable materials and aim for a room temperature between 16–20°C (60–68°F). 6. Keep the Crib Clear Remove all loose items like toys, pillows, or crib bumpers. A clutter-free crib is the safest choice. Mix and Match Your Favorite Themes Of course, safety is key—but you also want your baby’s crib to look beautiful. Jollein’s sleep essentials combine function with style. Our dreamy prints, soft colors, and gentle textures let you create a look that’s both calming and trendy. Combine pastel tones and soft materials for a crib that’s just as cute as it is comfortable. Muslin Cloths for Extra Convenience Muslin cloths are a must-have in every nursery. Use them as an extra protective layer on the mattress or during those little spills and accidents. Soft, absorbent, and quick to wash—Jollein’s muslin cloths are practical lifesavers for every parent. With these tips, you’ll create a sleeping space that’s safe, cozy, and totally ready to welcome your baby. Discover the full collection and get inspired to style your dream nursery! Everything you need to know about the TOG-value

Everything you need to know about the TOG-value

Is your baby too hot or too cold? That can sometimes be hard to tell. It’s true that newborns aren’t yet great at regulating their own body temperature. That’s why it’s good to know: being a little too cold is actually better than being too warm! Luckily, there are some helpful guidelines for how to tuck your little one in, so they’re not too hot or too chilly. In this blog, we’ll tell you all about it.Common sense goes a long wayYou know how uncomfortable it feels to be too warm in bed — you start to sweat, feel stuffy, and end up kicking off the covers. But your baby can’t do that yet. That’s why it’s important to check on your little one now and then. Is their head too warm? Are their feet or neck too cold? Is your baby clammy or sweaty? Especially when they’re under the weather, they need to be able to release excess heat. You probably have a pretty good sense of the temperature in the room. And remember: it’s better to be slightly underdressed than overdressed!Keep it coolResearch shows that babies can struggle to breathe properly in an overly warm and crowded crib. A baby could roll onto their stomach and end up with their face pressed against a pillow or blanket, limiting access to fresh air. If your baby is wrapped up too warmly, their body temperature can rise to an unsafe level — especially if the bedroom is also being heated. 18 degrees Celsius is warm enough!Paying attention to TOG Trusting your instincts and doing regular checks is the best way to help your baby sleep safely. But there’s also a technical aid: the TOG value. This is a rating system for how well bedding and sleepwear insulate. The colder the room, the higher the TOG value can be. Conversely, the warmer the room, the lower the TOG value should be. TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade, and the number tells you how much warmth is retained by items like sleeping bags, blankets, swaddles, and clothing. TOG ratings range from 0 to 4 and are meant to be used indoors at room temperature. They are not suitable for outdoor use.A guideline for temperature controlHere’s a handy overview of TOG values and the corresponding room temperatures. Important: Don’t add TOG values together. That’s because of the insulating air layer that forms between two separate layers — this layer adds extra warmth on its own. So trust your gut and use common sense when dressing your baby for sleep.

Over the years, we’ve refined our techniques and truly learned what parents want for their little ones. Every product we make reflects innovation, love, and care for quality and safety. Because at Jollein, we believe only the best is good enough for your baby. What is TOG and why is it important? TOG, or Thermal Overall Grade, is a measure of the insulation level of bedding. The lower the room temperature, the higher the TOG rating should be. This system ensures your baby sleeps comfortably, which is essential for your rest and theirs. A tip: don't add up TOG ratings—extra layers create warmth from the air between fabrics, which isn’t included in the rating. Which sleeping bags are available? At Jollein, you’ll find a selection of sleeping bags that match your baby’s needs, no matter the season or age. Choose the ideal sleeping bag for your little one and ensure restful nights! Newborn Cocoon / WrapperThis cocoon is perfect for newborns aged 0–3 months. It offers warmth and comfort, helping your baby feel safe and secure. Summer Sleeping BagMade from breathable, lightweight fabric, these sleeping bags are ideal for warm summer nights. They help keep your baby cool and comfortable. These sleeping bags are made from airy muslin or stretchy jersey and have a TOG value of 0.5—perfect for warm summer evenings! Sleeping Bag with Detachable SleevesThis versatile sleeping bag is perfect for any season. With a TOG rating of 3.5 for winter and 2.5 for spring and autumn, it’s the ideal solution for active little ones. Will you choose the version with a rounded or straight bottom? Which size sleeping bag does my little one need? To choose the right size, it’s important to measure your baby’s length. Lay your little one on a flat surface, like a soft mat or bed, and make sure they are lying straight with their arms at their sides. Use a flexible measuring tape and start at the top of the head, measuring straight down to the heel. This gives you the total body length. Compare it to our sizing chart and choose a size slightly larger so your baby has room to move—but not so much that the neckline is too loose. The table below is a guideline—always consider your baby’s length. Jollein offers four sleeping bag sizes: 60 cm: Suitable for newborns from birth to about 3 months. 70 cm: For babies aged 3–6 months. A great follow-up after the newborn sleeping bag! 90 cm: Suitable for little ones aged around 6 to 18 months. 110 cm: For toddlers aged 18 months and up—until they no longer need a sleeping bag. The birth of a brilliant idea In Germany, moms (to be) were busy shopping for baby sleeping bags. Wim Sr. found this inspiring. While holding one in his hands, he had a brilliant idea: with just a few small changes, this could become the perfect sleeping bag for babies. He immediately went into his sewing workshop and brought his idea to life. What is TOG and why does it matter? TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and measures how insulating bedding is. The air between layers provides extra warmth, which isn't reflected in TOG ratings. Trust your instincts and use common sense alongside these guidelines. Baby sleeping bags and TOG value The TOG value is a technical tool to help your baby sleep safely. It’s a point system that indicates the insulating quality of bedding. The lower the room temperature, the higher the TOG value can be. TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and tells you how well a sleeping bag or blanket retains body heat. Want to know more about TOG values? You can read all about them in our blog. Muslin or jersey sleeping bag? These sleeping bags are perfect for summer use. With a low TOG value of 0.5, a muslin or jersey sleeping bag is ideal when the temperature is high. Jersey is stretchy and soft, while muslin is breathable and absorbs moisture easily. Baby sleeping bag with detachable sleeves Sleeping bags with detachable sleeves are great for spring and autumn with a TOG value of 2.0. If you zip the sleeves back on, they’re perfect for winter too, with a TOG value of 3.0. These sleeping bags come in many cute prints and soft materials. Will you go for a sleeping bag in a cute colour, or one with an adorable print? Four-season baby sleeping bag Want to be prepared for the whole year at once? Then go for the four-season sleeping bag. It comes with an inner and an outer layer that you can easily zip apart to adapt the sleeping bag to the room temperature. Jollein’s four-season sleeping bags are available in trendy prints and colors, so all you have to do is pick your favorite. The TOG value of this sleeping bag ranges from 0.5 to 3.5, making it suitable for all seasons! Newborn sleeping bags Newborn sleeping bags are made specifically for the tiniest babies. They create a snug and safe sleeping environment, eliminating the need for loose bedding. Some of these sleeping bags can also be unzipped into separate layers and used year-round, with a TOG range from 0.5 to 3.5. With unpredictable weather, the four-season newborn sleeping bag is ideal! Is your newborn especially active at night? Try the newborn cocoon sleeping bag. It gives your baby a secure and cozy feeling and limits excess movement. Which size sleeping bag do i need? Now that you know all about the different types of sleeping bags, it’s important to pick the right size. Jollein offers four different sizes in its collection, so there’s a suitable sleeping bag for every baby and toddler. The newborn size is 60 cm and suitable for babies from 0–3 months. Then there’s the 70 cm size for 3–6 months, followed by the 90 cm sleeping bag for 6–18 months. The largest is 110 cm, which is suitable from 18 months until your little one no longer sleeps in a sleeping bag. These age ranges are just guidelines — always check your baby’s height when choosing a sleeping bag. It’s essential that your baby’s head or arms can’t slip through the openings. That’s why you shouldn’t size up too much. When in doubt, measure! Still unsure which sleeping bag or size is best for your baby after reading this blog?
