Interview Inez (Webshop Manager)
Tell us a bit more about yourself?
I’m Inez, 32 years old, Jollein’s ‘webshop queen,’ mom to Charlie (2) and number two is on the way (due Nov ’24). I grew up in a small village in Groningen and recently moved to Zuidlaren, Drenthe. For the past year, I’ve been the Webshop Manager at Jollein. This means I’m responsible for all B2B and B2C webshops. It’s a great place to express my creativity! To stay fit, I also train once a week as an instructor at Mom in Balance, where I teach fitness classes for pregnant women, new moms, and active mothers.
How long have you been working at Jollein?
Since May 2023, so just over a year now.
How would you describe Jollein?
I would describe Jollein as a brand fully committed to helping parents experience all those first moments with their baby, with safe, stylish, practical, and high-quality products. I see the passion and dedication in every product, which always makes me proud to be part of it. Within our office walls, we inspire each other and enjoy a very cozy atmosphere.
What does a typical workday look like for a webshop manager at Jollein?
Every day and week is actually quite different. One week I launch a new campaign, and the next we’re busy preparing the new collection. Never a dull moment!
I start my day with a cup of coffee (what else?) and catch up with my lovely colleagues. Then it’s time to get to work: I check all the numbers to see if we’re ahead or behind and if there’s anything notable. Of course, I check my emails, then I have a weekly marketing campaign meeting where we discuss current campaigns and brainstorm new ones. Lunch time! On Thursdays we always order a nice sandwich, the rest of the week it’s usually just a peanut butter sandwich (the whole marketing team has a jar of peanut butter on their desk, lol). We often take a little walk after lunch. In the afternoon, I work on A/B tests or webshop optimizations, like the current choice tool for sleeping bags. Around 4:30 pm, our team always discusses what’s for dinner that evening — great for inspiration — and we also enthusiastically participate in ‘Double Your Salary’ on Qmusic. Throughout the day, I often have meetings with developers about ongoing projects.
How do you ensure the webshop is always up-to-date and user-friendly for customers?
By continuously gathering data that provides valuable insights. But not just that — I often brainstorm with the webshop developers about how to optimize the site. Our webshop is built on a system that is constantly being updated, so I get to experiment with new tools or features to see what works best for our customers. I also conduct user research from time to time and look at what other webshops are doing for inspiration. Colleagues and even customers regularly give feedback and great suggestions.
Can you tell us about a time you overcame a big challenge in your role? How did you do it?
My biggest challenge so far at Jollein was launching the new B2B webshop. So much goes into it and so much depends on it. It affects almost every department, but especially how our customers place orders. It involved a lot of coordination with colleagues and external parties. You work with deadlines, and sometimes it’s stressful until the last minute whether everything will work as planned. Sometimes not everything works perfectly right away, which can be hard for my perfectionist brain, but it’s very rewarding that we keep optimizing to make the shop even more user-friendly.
What do you enjoy most about working at Jollein?
Working with a team of fun, motivated, creative colleagues. That is very inspiring and contagious for me. I always love coming up with campaigns and ideas with them and then seeing them come to life. From campaigns planned months in advance to spontaneous ideas that have to go live in two days. Everyone always thinks in possibilities, and we often get the freedom and opportunity to try new things, which makes it very enjoyable.
What is your ultimate relaxation moment of the day?
On a workday, that’s the afternoon walk. Closing the laptop, soaking up some vitamin D, and chatting with colleagues — not about work. It’s a nice break and gives me new energy for the rest of the day.
I heard you always have Tasty Thursday on Thursdays, what’s your favorite sandwich?
My favorite day of the week! We often start the day around 9:30 am by asking “What shall we order for lunch?” My favorite sandwich is usually number one the carpaccio sandwich with truffle mayo, but since I’m pregnant I can’t have that right now. So, I go for the brie sandwich with chutney and walnuts — yum.
